About the Book

Purpose

As a collector of physical media I wanted to create a work of my own. "ISMS" was the perfect excuse to get out of my comfort zone and be more intentional with my work. I don't want my photos collecting proverbial dust while rotting on a hard drive, I want them collecting real dust on a bookshelf or a coffee table.

what are isms

An -ism is a way to make an abstract concept concrete. Isms are feelings so acute we make up words to describe them. Pessimism, Escapism, Absurdism, Consumerism, Parallelism; they're not personality tests they're characters and archetypes. I wanted to find and capture feelings that might not have an -ism yet.

Film Shot

The entire book was shot across 52 rolls of 35mm film on a Canon EOS Rebel XS. I shot Cinestill 800t, Kodak Portra 800, Kodak Gold 200, Harman Phoenix II, and Fuji 400 primarily. At 36 exposures per roll that is 1,872 images condensed into this book. All of the film was developed by Boutique Film Lab in Nashville, TN.

Thank you

Thank you to everyone who buys the book, to all the friends who took part in making it, to all the jobs and schools and places where I met these talented people, to all the authors and bands and loved ones who inspired the work, to everyone following along the journey on Instagram, and to my barely working camera for lasting long enough to shoot these images.
